Twenty-Fourth Place Omega Ring from 24th Place Winners at the Winter Olympics as hosted by Russia at the City of Sochi

 

 Norway is the first nation to earn a Winter Olympic Omega Ring.  Torgeir Bergrem of Norway is the first athlete to win the Winter Olympic Accolade.

Since Omega is the 24th and last letter in the Greek Alphabet, 24th placed athletes get this award.

Twentieth Place Upsilon Ring for 20th Place Winners at the 2014 Russian Sochi Olympics

 

 Russia is the first nation to win a 20th place Upsilon Ring at the 2014 Russian Olympics.  Since Upsilon is the 20th letter in the Greek Alphabet, athletes who place 20th deserve this award.

Luckily Alexey Sobolev of Russia was able to bring the first of first Winter Olympics Upsilon Rings home.

Nineteenth Place Tau Ring for 19th Place Winners at the Sochi Russian Winter Olympics

 Switzerland is the first nation to receive a 19th Place Tau Ring at the Winter Sochi Russian Olympics.  Tau is the 19th letter in the Greek Alphabet thus athletes who place 19th deserve this accolade. 

Thus Jan Scherrer is the first person to ever earn this token at a Winter Olympics.

 The first nation to ever win an 18th place Sigma Ring is Finland, thanks to Janne Korpi.  Since Sigma is the 18th letter in the Greek Alphabet, 18th place winners at the Olympics receive this accolade.

Eigth Place Theta Ring for 8th Place Winners at the 2014 Sochi, Russian Winter Olympics

The first nation to earn an 8th place Theta Ring at a Winter Olympics is Japan.   The eighth letter in the Greek Alphabet is Theta, which coincidentally looks like a number 8, is for 8th place winners.

Luckily eight is lucky number in Japan, due to its associations with the eight fold noble path in Buddhism.  Unfortunately, the 'th' sound (vibrating like the or soft like thin) does not exist in Japanese. 

It is lower case, because upper case is reserved for the Summer Olympics.  But upper case and lower case theta are very similar.
